J.one Jelly Cushion Review + Demo

You already know I’m a huge BB cushion fanatic.  When I found a BB cushion that haven’t been reviewed much on the online realm, I jumped on the chance and got my hand on this BB cushion.  Luckily Memebox was kind enough to send it to me and I’ve been testing it out for two months now.  J.one is a brand under Recipe cosmetics, just like how Pony effect is manufactured by Memebox.  There aren’t much information about this Jelly cushion, so shall we get started with this review?

Product packaging:
Like most BB cushions, this comes in a case with the refill snapped into it, along with a air puff as well.  This cushion compact comes in a sleek white design and the brand name in the front.

In the back is the information sticker.

The compact is slimmer then the regular compacts such as IOPE or Etude House, but this one is also a bit wider making it not compatible to interchange with any other compacts.

The air puff is also white with the applicator side being beige.  I also noticed the air puff is a lot thicker then generic air puffs, almost double the puffiness I’d say.

Keke can you see that the air puff is dirty :P.  I didn’t have time to wash it hehe.

Color/ Pigmentation:
Like most Korean BB cushions, this BB cushion only comes in two shades, #21 and #23.  I don’t have shade #21 so I can’t speak for that shade, but shade #23 is a great match for my Mac NC25, cool yellow under-toned skin type.  I detest looking like a walking ghost so I usually choose either the darkest or second darkest shade when I buy BB cushions.

Texture/ Finish:
Unlike the dewy BB cushions I lean towards, this BB cushion is actually a satin finish to my surprise.  From the name “jelly”, I was expecting it to be dewy but it is satin!  I usually don’t like satin or matte finishes since they don’t work that great with my skin, but this BB cushion along with their jelly pack is heaven!! σ(≧ε≦ｏ)  The jelly pack leaves my skin super hydrated, primer and with the jelly cushion on top, my skin never looked so flawless with base make up.  I’m not kidding you, my skin looks like my skin but ten times better.  You can almost not even detect that I have make up on.  I even bring this cushion along with the jelly pack to Hong Kong.  If I was feeling dry, which I definitely wasn’t since humidity there was 80%, I would moisturize and primer my skin with the jelly pack first.  Most of the time, I just used this BB cushion straight onto my face and it worked great since it was also combatting the humidity for me and giving me coverage.

Coverage:
Most BB cushions usually have a very light coverage.  Luckily for this one, the jelly cushion is light to medium and is easily buildable. With one layer, my skin is easily evened out.  For those areas where it is extra red, I can go over that area with a second layer.  My skin doesn’t look Barbie doll flawless, but more of an au naturel kind of flawless.

Lasting power:
Surprisingly, this BB cushion also lasts long for me!  Both in Canada and Hong Kong, which are two continents with polar opposite temperatures and humidity, both places lasted me a good 6-8 hours of wear.  Of course in Hong Kong, it lasted a little less due to the extreme heat and humidity, where as Canada has low humidity and I don’t sweat much therefore it lasts a good 8 hours.

Fragrance?:
There is a very subtle soapy floral scent to it, which is nothing that would irritate my nose or my skin.  Smell-o-scale=4/10 for the strength of the fragrance.

Okay, let’s try this on!  It’s been a while since I have done a BB cushion review eh?

The usual concerns for my skin is just the redness around my cheeks, sides of my nose and a little bit on my chin.  I also like to correct my dark circles, but that isn’t something I rely on to cancel out the purple undertones.  I have dry skin so I always look for something that will not cling onto my skin.

My skin condition hasn’t at it’s best lately.  I’ve been getting red spots on the sides of my cheeks and the redness around my cheeks have increased as well.

Since I didn’t do a demo for the Jelly pack, I will include it here since I’m doing the jelly cushion demo.  I’m obsessed with this stuff!  The stickiness does need some getting used to, but after a while, your skin will drink it up quickly like your drinking a glass of water.  Also Glow recipe has collaborated with Sephora, so this product is also available in Sephora* with the same Korean retail price :D.

I’ve applied some to the right side of my face.  Do you notice the subtle glow it gives?

With one layer, you can already tell a big difference with the redness being reduced.  Most of it is gone, just a little bit peeking out around my cheek area which I don’t mind.

Here is the right side which is with the jelly pack and the jelly cushion.  Excuse my skin texture, it kind of ruins it when I tell you this BB cushion looks flawless HAHA.  Oh dear…  But I promise you without the bright lights shining at my face, in natural light, this BB cushion looks just like my skin but better. 

I personally wouldn’t go in with another layer since I kind of like my skin still looking like skin.  I would go in with a concealer and spot conceal the little red bumps here and there.

Here is the left side of my face without the jelly pack.  I mean it looks fine to the naked eye, but picky me don’t really like this matte and sad look.  The satin finish accentuates the textures on my skin along with my skin feeling a bit dry.  Not bad, but I prefer using this cushion with a very hydrating primer.

Oh my gawwww.  Too close!!  If you compare this picture which is the side with the jelly pack and the jelly cushion, you can see this one looks a lot more smooth and flawless.  I think depending on what skin type you have, which would be the best method to use this cushion.  I’ve asked around to those who have used the jelly pack, if it is only dry skin types that like the jelly pack and some of you guys have told me that you have oily skin but love to use this product as well.

Now let’s finish this face.  My face looks so beat!  I still prefer being bare faced.  Not because I’m lazy… well yes because I’m lazy HAHA.  What can I say, Gude life is life.  Gudetama is my spirit animal (/^▽^)/.

Overall thoughts:
Never in a million years did I think I’d fall in love with a satin finished BB cushion.  I swear by dewy finished BB cushions since it combats nicely with my dry skin, so I’ve been avoiding satin or matte finishes like the plague.  With it’s great buildability and impressive formulation, making the skin look flawless, this might be the one BB cushion (along with A’pieu Air fit of course) that I would repurchase after using up both refills.  When they said this BB cushion was for all skin types, they weren’t joking.  Now I’m curious to see if the J.one Jelly pack can save my Verite UV multi cushion.  Overall I think this BB cushion can justify it’s high (ish… at least in the K-beauty world) price tag.  I highly highly recommend this product to any one in the market for a revolutionary BB cushion that is truly for all skin types.
