Laneige BB cushion hydra radiance Review and demo

BB cushions have been a long time love of mine although I have been slowing down with trying new ones.  Recently I got a PR package from Laneige Canada and they included their Hydra Radiance cushion and I couldn’t be more excited.  Although I did get the original Laneige cushion, I got the North American version which I’m wondering if it is the same as the Korean ones or the shade range might have been adjusted to suit the North American market.  The original was too yellow and too dark for me, so I never really got the chance to try it out so I’m super excited for this time around and hopefully it will work out better ;).  Let’s give it a try!

How to use:
Apply by pressing the puff into cushion sponge and pat onto the face.  Reapply throughout the day if needed.

Packaging:
Packaging compared to the original is definitely upgraded.  Actually I don’t even think they have the original cushion since it is discontinued.  I love the holographic lid and the sleek sides but the construction of the case is just like the standard.

Clicking the side button will release the lid and inside you’ll find the air puff included inside.  There is also a nice mirror which you can see your whole face with which is always nice.

The first thing you’ll notice that is different with this cushion is the cushion itself.  Usually you’d just have a plain, flat cushion but this one seems to be a lot more dense.  Before with the original cushion, sometimes you’d have to press down really hard to get product onto the air puff and a lot of times, it wouldn’t be a nice even application onto the face due to the product not dispersed evenly.  With this newly invented cushion, I almost find it hard to get product at all since it is so dense and the diamond shapes on the cushion sometimes isn’t soaked throughly but I think I’m going to try and store it upside down to see if that will help.

Color/ Pigmentation:
I got sent #21 beige which is usually slightly too pale for me but it can work during the winter.  If I would have choose, I would have gotten #23 beige for a more natural look

On the back of my hand, #21 blends in perfectly but on my face, you’ll see for yourself ;).

Texture/ Finish:
This cushion is quite moisturizing but it doesn’t have that overly dewy look to it. I’d say it is more of a satin finish that is comfortable to wear and doesn’t cling onto dead skin.

Let’s try this on so you guys know what I’m talking about.

Here is my skin before with  nothing on.  My main concerns is the redness around my cheeks and nose, under eye dark circles and dryness.  I personally like dewy finishes and usually don’t like to set it with powder since my dry skin sucks up any moisture and becomes dry itself anyways LOL.  Well that’s depressing haha.

And after with one layer.  Looks natural but I’d still like a little bit more coverage around the cheek area.

Coverage:
One important thing about this cushion I have to note is that the coverage is light to medium and not very buildable.  You can build it and it won’t cake or get weird and dry but it really isn’t super buildable with low coverage.

At least the formula looks quite natural but just the shade isn’t right ARGH!

The color definitely looks a lot more apparent when I’m done with the look and with a bold lip… I truly look like Wednesday Adams haha.  And yes, the black shirt also doesn’t help!!

And just in case you were wondering, the lip color is Covernine magnetfit tint in 05 Russet red.

Lasting power:
Lasting power is on average about 4 hours with two layers and then the redness does start to peek out a little bit.  My overall complexion isn’t too bad though with no drying or flaking after all those hours.  Reapplication is also painless so you can definitely do it on the go.

Fragrance?:
There is the usual floral soapy fragrance but nothing too strong and scent fades after application.  Smell-o-scale: 4/10 in terms of how strong the scent is.

Overall thoughts:
As much as I wanted to be swooped away, this really wasn’t too impressive but it also isn’t the worst cushion I have tried to date.  It does have a nice moisturizing effect with a very natural glow to it but the shade range is quite limited with only about two shades for fair, medium and dark skintones. Overall I think this cushion would be a great starter cushion if you want a fool proof, natural looking cushion.Product provided by Laneige Canada.  Not sponsored.
