Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen crazy I truly am.ย Since my fascination with sunscreen hasn’t died down, I’m going to try as many sunscreens as I can so you guys don’t have to.ย If you haven’t read my article on the basics of sunscreen and why you should care, make sure to check it out.ย With the whole frenzy with the sunscreen debacle back in 2019 with the whole Korean sunscreen controversy, lots of companies have taken note and have either reformulated their sunscreens, pulled it off the shelves quietly, or have shown the SPF “proof” to show their trustworthiness.ย In my compilation of sunscreens that have been approved by Ahn In Sook (CEO of Korea Institute of Dermatological Sciences in Korea), Dr. Jart had two made the list.ย To my surprise, Dr. Jart has quite a few sunscreens.ย I was able to pick up three out of the five they currently have, so let’s go through it together, and hopefully, I can help you choose the best one for your skin type out of the three that I have.
Looking through Dr. Jart’s US site, these three sunscreens don’t seem to appear.ย There is a similar lime green one that is named “Dr. Jart every sun day mineral sunscreen SPF 50+” which I think is the same thing, however, it is sized at 50 mL instead of 30 mL.ย There is also a similar blue version named “Dr. Jart every sun day sun fluid SPF 50+” sized at 100 mL.ย I personally don’t know if these are the exact same since I know US FDA’s sunscreen filter list is crazy limited and the ingredients for the moisturizing sun have different filters compared to the Korean version.ย This would be due to the USA’s outdated sunscreen laws and how their technology/ ideology for sunscreens is a decade behind.ย If you don’t know what I’m referring to, again… read my article on “understanding sunscreen“.

Product packaging:
When I first got this sunscreen, I was so shocked at how small the tube was, to be honest.ย From the looks of it, it seems like they’ve recently repackaged all of their sunscreens.ย Don’t quote me on this but I have seen a few older pictures and they weren’t in this tube.ย Other than the size, I do like the overall look of all these sunscreens.ย Each version has a colored tip for the lid and different coloured text on the tube to easily differentiate between each other.
To disperse the product, simply twist the lid, and there ya go!ย Simple squeeze tube.
To demonstrate how slim/ small the tube is, here it is against my tiny dinosaur hands.ย All three of these measure at 12 cm (or 4.75″ for my American folks).
Texture, Finish, white cast:
If I’m not mistaken, the mild sun is the only one that is a physical sunscreen.ย Out of all three, this is the thickest and takes a bit more time to massage into the skin.ย Yes, it is kind of pasty and unfortunately does leave a bit of a white cast behind.
Can you see where it has been applied?ย So if you are planning to do flash photography, definitely stay away from this sunscreen.ย And if you are a darker complexion, I would stay away from this sunscreen as it will for sure make you look ashy.ย Throughout the day, I felt like this sunscreen was making my skin more matte and I felt a bit dry.ย I personally like hydrating and dewy sunscreens or just anything that won’t dry my already dry skin out.
Another thing you have to keep in mind, this sunscreen seems to pile a bit.ย So if you do want to work around this sunscreen, make sure to apply your skincare well in advance before putting on this sunscreen.
Fragrance?:
There is a light citrus scent to it which is from the bergamot oil used in the formula.ย Smell-o-scale: 4/10 in terms of how strong the scent is and it fades after application.ย I do have to mention that there is limonene (a common cheap fragrance ingredient) and linalool (common fragrance ingredient) which could cause irritation to sensitive skin people.
Pro:
-100% physical sunscreen
Con:
-mattifying/ dehydrating for my dry skin
-white cast that won’t work for a lot of people
-piles if you don’t let your skincare absorb fully before application
Repurchase?:
No

Overall thoughts:
I don’t think this is the worst sunscreen out there, hence the average scoring but this sunscreen would have to have someone looking at very niche needs who would want to purchase this.ย For me and my dry skin, this sunscreen is too mattifying for me and I find it to almost suck out any leftover moisture on my skin throughout the day.ย The white cast could be combatted if used underneath makeup.ย Overall I give this a meh score and if those criteria work with you, go ahead and purchase it but I just think there are so many other sunscreens out there to choose from.

Seeing the product online, the color was more of a red but it is actually a neon orange in real life. Not that it matters that much but just a little subtle thing I wanted to point out.
Texture, Finish, white cast:
Out of the three, this would be the middle child in terms of texture.ย It is much more fluid and not as pasty as the mild sun version.ย I’m pretty sure this is a chemical sunscreen, hence there is no white cast and it massages into the skin effortlessly.ย ย
Hmm, are my eyes deceiving me?ย There seems to be a slight white cast but it isn’t strong at all.ย Or it could be just the reflecting.ย Anyways, this sunscreen is somewhat moisturizing and didn’t seem to dry out my skin throughout the day.ย Reapplication was smooth and I didn’t have any issues with piling either.ย I wore this throughout the crazy heatwave when it was 40C and this sunscreen held up relatively well.ย Then again, I don’t have one of those sunscreen cameras, so I really wouldn’t know.
Fragrance?:
There is a floral scent to it, smell-o-scale: 6/10 in terms of how strong the scent is and it does fade after application. At the bottom of the list is “fragrance”, which could be anything really so be careful for those who are sensitive skin types.
Pro:
-a very faint white cast but not that noticeable
-applies effortlessly
-decent hydration levels throughout the day
Con:
-fragrance

Overall thoughts:
The waterproof sun milk is definitely much more enjoyable to wear compared to the mild sun version.ย It massages into the skin effortlessly, leaves a good amount of hydration for my dry skin throughout the day and reapplication was smooth and painless.ย There isn’t anything really stand out-ish (not a word, I know. It is now keke) about this sunscreen, so I give it a little bit above average scoring.ย Not bad, but not amazing either.ย This sunscreen would work with all skin types and all skin tones though!

Now this one sounds more like my jam!
Texture, Finish, white cast:
Dr. Jart every sun day the moisturizing sun is the most lightweight and lotion-esque out of the three.ย The texture really reminds me of my all-time favorite Thank you Farmer sun project water sun cream with its gel-cream texture and its hydration levels.ย Both actually land at the same price point, however, Thank you farmer has 50 mL while Dr. Jart’s is 30 mL.
This is a chemical sunscreen and does not leave any type of white cast on the skin.ย The finish is dewy and I love the hydration it gives me throughout the day.ย If you aren’t dry to normal skin type, you might not like this since those who don’t have dry skin will find this to be too heavy throughout the sweaty summer days.
Fragrance?:
Dr. Jart every sun day moisturizing sun has an earthy, herbal scent to it.ย The scent reminds me a lot like tea tree and Centella products, but on the ingredient list, it says there is limonene and linalool in the list.ย Those two ingredients are commonly used fragrances which could be any natural oils including lavender, ylang-ylang, bergamot, jasmine to give you a couple of examples.ย Once those two ingredients oxidize on-air exposure, they could cause an allergic reaction, so for those with sensitive skin, make sure to patch test or just avoid it.ย Smell-o-scale: 7/10 in terms of how strong the scent is and it does fade after application.
Pro:
-no white cast
-hydrating throughout the day
-comfortable texture
Con:
-scent was a bit strong

Overall thoughts:
This version is definitely my favorite of the three, however, I wish there wasn’t so much fragrance pumped into the formulation.ย Dr. Jart is quite notorious for using a ton of fragrance in their products.ย I’m not sure if it is to please the western palette or it isn’t that big of a deal in Korea?ย Either way, they could ease off of it if possible.ย Overall this moisturizing sun version suits my dry skin much better and gives me a nice dewy finish throughout the day.
Which one would be the version you choose?ย I personally like the moisturizing sun version, with waterproof sun milk as a runner-up ;).ย That’s just me~

Hello, what other mineral sunscreen with matte finish can you recommend? I am currently using Sunprise mildy airy and Dr G Mild Up Sun+. I currently love the Sunprise and prefer it over Dr G.
