Sunscreen, a product that should be a staple in everyone’s arsenal.ย Those who are skincare lovers would cringe at the thought of not using sunscreen before stepping outside of their homes, whether or not it is sunny or cloudy.ย But in reality, most people in North America associate sunscreen with summer, a time when the sun is the strongest.ย Sunscreen should be used on a daily basis and I must admit, that was a mindset that needed to be adjusted.ย Nowadays, I enjoy testing out as many sunscreens as I can get my hands on.ย I know the new (ish) sunscreens from Cosrx has been on people’s minds for a while, so here are my two cents on whether or not these are worth the money.

How to use:
1) Apply a generous amount on over face 30 minutes before sun exposure.
2) Re-apply throughout the day as needed, especially during prolonged sun exposure.
Product packaging:
I honestly was somewhat surprised when I got the sunscreen in person that the tube was smaller than anticipated.ย Both sunscreens come in a slender squeeze tube with a screw-on cap.ย ย
I’m a bit disappointed with the amount that it comes with since their first sunscreen (Aloe soothing sun cream) came with 50 mL while these two newbies have 30 mL.ย The price is the same but I’m just praying Cosrx’s quality doesn’t go down the tube since they are coming out with so many products and that their popularity has skyrocketed in the past couple of years.ย Please please please stick with your core values!!ย I still love them though ;).
Texture/ Finish + Effects:
If you have been contemplating on which one to get, the texture would be a huge factor other than mineral or chemical sunscreen factor.ย The all-green comfort sun is a physical/ mineral sunscreen with a creamier texture and blends out with a little bit of a white cast so keep that in mind.ย As for the shield-fit snail essence sun, it has (like the name states) a lighter, watery, essence feel but definitely not as watery as the Biore one.ย This one blends out with no white cast due to the fact that it is a chemical sunscreen.
Without going too in-depth with what the differences are with a chemical or physical/ mineral sunscreen, those with sensitive skin tend to lean towards a physical sunscreen due to its low irritation factor.ย The downside to a mineral sunscreen is the white cast and it does not photograph well as flash photography will make the white cast more apparent.ย As for chemical sunscreens, it usually doesn’t leave that white cast, spreads easier, and mix better with skincare products (peptides, enzymes, etc.) hence why you’ll usually find chemical sunscreens in sunscreen built-in skincare products.
They are decently lightweight and don’t leave a greasy feeling, but those of you who have drier skin like me might like the all-green comfort sun better since it hydrates a bit better.ย The snail essence sun is a bit more liquidy but is easier to blend into the skin.

Can you see the white cast?
I also found myself itching after 8 hours or so and I’m not sure if it is the formula or if I didn’t use a face cream underneath, however, my jaw would feel super itchy after a bit with the snail essence sun version.ย When I do use it with a moisturizer before sunscreen, I don’t seem to have that problem.ย Weird right?

Overall thoughts:
It hurts me to say this but I don’t really care for the new sunscreens from Cosrx.ย I don’t find myself grabbing for it and I just don’t care for the flaws that it has.ย The chemical version gives me itchy skin while the physical version takes a bit more time to blend and also has a slight white cast.ย I just don’t want to have to think when I’m applying sunscreen, it should just work for me.ย I’d personally recommend Purito’s centella sunscreen (scented or unscented) which has worked wonderfully and keeps my skin hydrated without any irritations.ย Overall I think these Cosrx products are decent but I can’t recommend it, unfortunately.
