Krave beauty matcha cleanser VS B. Lab matcha cleanser I Copying or inspired?

In the last couple of days, I’ve been seeing so much drama around Krave beauty’s matcha cleanser and people flaming brand B.Lab for creating a matcha cleanser as well.ย  If you go to B. Lab’s Instagram right now and click on their photos in their feed with the matcha hydrating foam cleanser, you can see the comments being completely lit up.ย  There are a ton of Krave beauty stans calling out the brand for ripping off their favorite brand, while there are others confused as to why there is so much drama when the beauty industry does this a whole lot more than you think.ย  Allegedly, this all started with the founder Liah Yoo sharing a photo of B.lab’s product new cleanser and calling them out.ย  Naturally, the army of fans went and attacked.

Is this a dupe or is this copying?ย  Let’s talk about it.

Krave beauty matcha hemp hydrating cleanser 120 mL $16ย
โ€œAn antioxidant-rich jelly cleanser thatโ€™s as satisfying to use as it is effective. The bouncy gel formula creates a silky lather on the skin that lifts away impurities and irritants accumulated during the day. The best part? No dry, tight after-feeling like conventional cleansers.

A Clean Slate
Skincare wisdom tells us that a super clean face = super tight skin, but weโ€™re calling BS on that. We think a good cleanser can be effectiveย andย gentle at the same time. Cue Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser, the face wash that leaves your skin feeling cleanerย andย better. It uses coconut-based surfactants to deeply cleanse without stripping. Instead, nourishing Matcha and Hemp Seed Oil restore essential amino acids and antioxidants to the skin. No residue, no tightness, no worries.โ€

Ingredients:
Diglycerin, Glycereth-26, Xanthan Gum, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Powder, Quillaja Saponaria Bark Extract, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract, Diethoxydiglycol, Coco-Glucoside, Caprylyl Glycol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Decyl Glucoside, Pentylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Butylene Glycol, Octanediol, Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Citric Acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sodium PCA, Disodium EDTA

Already from the looks of it, Krave’s matcha hemp cleanser is more of a clear gel texture and does not foam up much.ย  I personally haven’t tried Krave beauty yet, yes I know… I just haven’t gotten around to getting it since I got so many products to test and review for you guys.ย  The ingredients list for both products are also completely diffferent as well.

B. Lab matcha cleanser 8,500 mL 120 mL
“Protect the oil and moisture necessary for the skin, give a clean feeling while erasing only waste without stimulation.

Matcha extract 10,000 ppm
Green tea leaves 2,500 ppm

Skin self renewal
Matcha made from young green tea leaves without processing.ย  It is rich in antioxidants to increase the self renewal long term.ย  It adjusts the oil and moisture balance to make your skin healthy.

Natural hyaluronic acid fructan
With natural hyaluronic acid foud in natural ingredients such as barley and lily.ย  After cleansing, it prevents evaporation of moisture, giving it a moisturizing feeling.”

*This was a Google translate if it doesn’t flow well.

Ingredients:
Water, Glycerin, Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate, Sodium Lauoryl Glutamate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Betaine, Hydroxypropyl Starch Phosphate, Centella Asiatica Extract, Ficus Carica (Fig) Fruit Extract, Laminaria Japonica Extract, Eclipta Prostrata Leaf Extract, Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract, Melia Azadirachta Flower Extract, Ulmus Davidiana Root Extract, Amaranthus Caudatus seed Extract, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Laurel Betaine, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Power, Sodium Chloride, Polyquaternium-39, Decylene Glycol, Allantoin, Butylene Glycol;1,3-Butylene Glycol, Fructan, Fructooligosaccharides, Beta-Glucan, Ceramide NP; Ceramide 3, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Hydroxyacetophenone, Ethlhexylglycerin

There really isn’t anything in the ingredients list that are the same.ย  The only ingredients that are either same are similar are these:
Krave
ย Camellia Sinesis Leaf Powder
1,2-Hexanediol
Butylene Glycol

B.lab
Camellia Sinensis Leaf
1,2-Hexanediol
Butylene Glycol;1,3-Butylene Glycol

Not only are the ingredients different, the textures are also completely different.ย  I think what most people are the most urked about the two products is the miniamlistic design and the green strip from the two products.ย  That is a little *sqinty eye* but Krave isn’t the first, nor will they be the last to follow the minialstic trend and designs.

To get a taste of what Krave beauty’s asethic looks like, here’s a snapshot of their IG feed.ย  They are defintiely more millenial friendly with a bit of 90’s flare.

B. lab has always had the simplistic font and design, so calm the heck down people.

So this really begs the question of whether B.lab copied Krave beauty or were they somewhat inspired by their popularity.ย  In my opinion, I do think they were a little bit inspired by using matcha as an ingredient for their cleanser, but Krave beauty was not the first company to have a green tea/ matcha based cleanser, nor will they be the last.ย  This was not a blant copy but I can see why people are a little irked.ย  I can’t justify the hateful comments towards this brand nor is this cancellation are called for.ย

The beauty industry has long done “dupes” of another company, but this case isn’t the worst I’ve seen.ย  Here are some products I have seen that a huge resemblance with the original that cannot be denied where companies are biting off the original company to get your coin too.

Benton packaging vs Purito
Now I love Purito as a brand, but when they first approached me two years ago, I almost didn’t want to try their product because their packaging was so similar to Benton’s.ย  I don’t think Purito was trying to copy Benton to a T but maybe just trying to use the most affordable and eco-friendly packaging to just get their products out there.ย  If you don’t know, manufacteurs do have standard packaging you can choose from which would cost way less then custom making your own designs.

Coxir vs Cosrx
Coxir may not have the exact same packaging, but the name of the brand and the way they packaged their products and their branding screams Cosrx.ย  I am hard fan of Cosrx and has been with them when they just had a small selection of products, so I still refuse to try Coxir since I personally feel like they are trying to decieve customers into thinking their products is the famous Cosrx’s products.ย  It might just be me, but I’ve also seen other bloggers notice the same thing.

Nature Republic vs Goodal and a whole lot of other companie’s aloe gel products
I don’t know if Nature Republic was the first seller of aloe vera gel, but EVERY brand out there has copied their packaging.ย  I’ve noticed this a lot where brands try to use the same colors, same packaging with a slight difference in the colors of font to a slight change of their sticker design.ย  All of this is to stimulate the look of the original and hope you’ll buy their version, thinking it is the original you are buying.

Guerisson vs Bioaqua horse oil cream
Now this is a complete copy and exactly what I was saying up above, trying to stimulate everything so you think you are buying the original.ย  This is pretty bad… even their box is the same orange. I think you get the point.
Missha vs SKII
This is a more acceptable “dupe” as it doesn’t have the exact same packaging but is Missha’s way of trying to produce a fermented essence for consumers that is similar to SKII’s essence.ย  Missha’s essence has been a long love for many and isn’t the only product they have duped from other brands.ย  There is also the time revolution night repair ampoule which is said to be a dupe of Estee Lauder’s advanced night repair.

Yeah and matcha is just green tea, and there have been tons of cleansers out there with green tea before krave. I am more interested in the b lab matcha cleanser!

Hahahah same i want to try the B.lab cleanser more now ????????????. Its pretty affordable too!

  2. Lucy

B lab knew their product would be compared to Kraveโ€™s when they chose that packaging. Krave wouldnโ€™t be mad about a matcha cleanser if they hadnโ€™t chosen packaging that obviously was meant to remind people of the Krave cleanser. I wouldnโ€™t cancel them but itโ€™s annoying to dupe a product that is already affordable.

  3. Soriah

Kraveโ€™s cleanser contains fungal acne triggers whereas B. Labโ€™s is fungal acne safe. Liah can be mad all she wants but I will choose B. Labโ€™s because itโ€™s safe and better for my skin.
As for the design, thatโ€™s how brands and businesses work. Always trying to one up their competitors.

Have you got your hands on the B lab one? I tried it and it is a little too drying for my liking unfortunately :S.

  4. Julia

I bought two from B.Lab on a blind buy and Krave doesn’t ship to my country sooo… sorry not sorry. I hope I will like the cleanser from B. Lab.

Yea unfortunately Krave doesn’t ship to my country either. Hopefully you like the B.lab one :). It was a little too drying for me, unfortunately.
