Pony effect contoured brow color review + swatches

Continuing on with Pony effect’s new essentials line, of course the contoured brow color would be next up!  I was really excited to try this specific product because there is one unique shade that could solve my mismatching brow problem.  I recently dyed my hair to a really light cool tone brown shade but my eyebrows are black, so it looks a little off at the moment.  The only product that matches my hair right now is Majolica Majorca’s brow tint in a reddish brown shade, but I don’t like the brush that it comes in.  Hopefully this Pony effect one will work well!  Let’s start the review (/^▽^)/

Product packaging:
Just like the other products in her essentials line, Pony effect’s contoured brow color also comes in the matte black plastic tube with a rose gold metal twist off lid.  On the bottom of the tube is a color indicator of what shade you have.  For me I chose the shades “customizing” and “natural brown” in hopes that the customizing shade would conceal my natural brows and then have natural brown tint my hairs to match my dyed hair color.

One of the most unique things of this brow tint is the brush.  Other then Chosungah 22 brow maker, I haven’t came across such a uniquely designed brow brush in a long time.The bristles are not plastic like some mascara wands, but instead it comes in a bristle type of brush like L’oreal Voluminous mascara.  One side has this half domed shape to it, while the other side is a standard brow brush type with straight bristles.
The one big thing I don’t like about Majolica Majorca’s brow tint is the brush.  Even though I made sure to wipe off the extra product on the tips, the bristles itself is way too short and the tint ends up on my skin.  This isn’t the ideal look, especially when you are trying to just coat the hairs but not your skin.  Surprisingly, I really like Pony effect’s brush.  Even though I still have to make sure there isn’t ton of product on the tip, the bristles are the perfect length so that the tint itself doesn’t get all over the skin underneath my brows.  I was kind of scared to try the straight edged side, but same thing!  Both sides work great and doesn’t load too much product onto my brows.  I’m super impressed.

How to use:
You can use this product two ways, either by itself or after you have shaped your brow with a brow pencil.  Start off with taking out the brush and make sure the excess product at the tip is wiped away.  I usually just wipe the excess on the tip of the tube, making it kind of messy sadly.  If you bought the shade “customizing”, you can use that first to mute out your natural brow color.  Coat your brows by brushing against the natural hair growth, then brushing it along your hair growth like in the video.  Let “customizing” dry and proceed with your brow tint color.

Color/ Pigmentation:
These contoured brow color come in 5 shades, one being customizing which is a flesh tone concealer for the brows.  I personally choose customizing and natural brown.  I think I should have picked deep brown since even after using “customizing”, natural brown didn’t give me much color sadly.
After I applied two coats of “customizing”, my brows honestly wasn’t as muted as what was shown in the video.  I’m not sure if my brow hairs are coarser then the models or what not, but just note if you have brow hairs like mine, customizing may not be able to give you that completely covered brow look.  After letting “customizing” dry, I applied natural brown but sadly it didn’t really show up as much as I would have liked it to.  Again, I might have picked the wrong shade.  I do however, really like the finish it gives me.  I personally already have quite thick, full brows so if the tint was anymore vibrant, it would look like caterpillars on my face.

Texture/ Finish:
I’ve had experiences with other brow products from high end to low end.  I don’t usually like brow tints or any type of brow gel because it usually leaves the hairs feeling slightly crispy or it just feels heavy like there is tons of product on my face.  With this brow tint, it didn’t leave my brow hairs crispy at all!  in fact, it still just felt like my natural hair, soft and lightweight.

Coverage:
The shade “customizing” didn’t conceal my natural black and coarse brow hairs as much as I would have liked it to.  Even with two coats, my natural brow color still were peaking out.  Also with “natural brown”, it did not give me enough color however I do think this could be a good thing since my brows in the end looked very natural but still looked filled in.

Lasting power:
I didn’t have any problems with this lasting all day for me living in a cool, low humidity climate.  I have scratched my face, accidently touching my brows here and there and the tint stayed intact for me.  I didn’t go shower with these or run in the rain so I can’t really comment on the water resistant function.

Fragrance?:
These have a slight mascara, paint type of smell.  Nothing offensive to the nostrils.  Smell-o-scale=2

Okay let’s try this out together!

First up, customizing.

This is with two coats of customizing.  I brushed it super throughly too but sadly it doesn’t truly give me coverage.

Please note I do have Pony effect sharping brow definer underneath my left eyebrow, hence the color change of brow color.

Okay, now for natural brown on top!

Seriously this brush makes for such easy application and foolproof heavy handers like myself.

And.. done!  Looks pretty dang good if you as me!  Oh added bonus, this brow tint also keeps my hairs in check.  I always get these odd flyaway brow hairs, like the ones on the right side.

And now both sides of the face is complete.  I always have an uneven eyebrow but meh.  I also have uneven nostrils HAHA but who’s look anyways.

Overall thoughts:
I’m honestly surprised that I finally found a brow brush that won’t lump all over my brow hairs.  For the longest time, I thought I suck at doing my brows but it was actually the product that sucked and not me!  YEY.  We learn something everyday.  I really wished customizing would have covered my black brow hairs better but what can you do.  I hope they intensify the formula in the future, then I would be super happy with it!  I do know A’pieu also has a muting brow tint for $6 which I might possibly try in the future.  Overall I think this product is really awesome.  The one major thing that knocked down on star was the lack of intensity and pigmentation, but the overall result was a nice, natural looking brow look so I will let it go.  Definitely check this product out if you are in the market for a brow tint or a brow product to hold your little hairs down with a bonus of a tint.
