BCL x Althea eye palette sunrise + Moonrise Review & swatches

I don’t know why for months, I’ve shied away from makeup.  Makeup or colored cosmetics was always my first love but maybe because of the reminder that I’m getting older, so I’ve been putting skincare first.  However, skincare takes up to a month to test out and it just isn’t physically possible to be reviewing solely skincare. I’m babbling but I’m excited to review for you guys an exclusive product from Althea!  They recently came out with an eyeshadow palette but is unfortunately only available on their southeast Asian countries at the moment but I got my fingers crossed, hoping they will release it to the rest of the world.  Let’s get into it!

Product packaging:
The packaging really reminds me of Pony’s first palette with Memebox if anyone remembers it.  It has the same magnetic closure and the pan size is the exact same.  Nothing against the design since I know a lot of companies uses the same manufacturer company so it’s whatever.

Inside is a nice sized mirror which is always nice.  I also really like the pan size which makes it easy to dip my brush into.

Colour/ pigmentation + texture/ finish:
At first glance, this palette felt quite familiar but I will talk about that down below. This palette has a good mix of cool and warm tone with pops of cranberry and a lilac purple shade as the accent color.  I love that there is a mix of glittery, shimmer as well as matte which is very important as a transition/ blending shade.  I wish there was at least one more matte shade that was darker.

Top palette: Pony Shine easy glam shadow palette #2
Bottom: BCL x Althea eye palette sunrise + Moonrise

At first glance, Althea’s palette really looked like it had the same color scheme as Pony’s.  But at a closer look, Althea’s palette is more vibrant and the finishes are completely different.  On top of that, Pony’s palette was honestly not pigmented and was borderline chalky whereas Althea’s is buttery smooth, soft and super pigmented.

Left to right:
Light shimmery beige champagne shade (satin finish)
Warm light milk chocolate brown (matte)
Coral pink shade with fine red + golden shimmers (shimmer finish)
Cool tone brown bronze shade with fine yellow gold shimmers (glittery finish)

The top row without primer works fine but the light beige shade to the far left as well as the light milk chocolate shade definitely performs better with a primer.  The coral shimmer shade, as well as the bronze shade, are definitely a lot more vibrant with a primer as well.

Left to right:
Warm tone bronze shade with fine golden shimmers (shimmer finish)
Warm raspberry wine shade with super fine red shimmers (shimmery finish)
Warm light pink with lilac undertone, fine pink and silver shimmers (shimmer finish leaning towards satin)
Cool grape purple shade with fine purple + blue shimmers (satin finish)

The last row is absolutely pigmented and BEAUTIFUL. I’m totally stuck on the three shades to the right because it is just SO perfect for springtime.  Whether it is with or without primer, all the shades on the bottom are absolutely silky, pigmented and jaw-droppingly gorgeous. I’m currently loving the light pink shimmery shade since, hey… it is sakura cherry blossom season ;).

Here is the makeup look I came up with.  I used the light milk chocolate brown shade (top row, second to the left), warm raspberry wine shade (bottom row, second to left)  in the crease as well as the inner part of my crease, grape purple shade (bottom row, furthest right), and the light shimmery pink (bottom row, second to right).  As for the added glitter, that will be for another review coming up ;).

Lasting power:
I had no problem with the pigmentation fading throughout the day.  These are super pigmented and lasts all day with primer.  I personally don’t use eyeshadows without primers, so I can’t comment on that.  Even if you don’t have a primer, you can also use concealer or even the foundation/ BB cushion you are applying on your face and just pat it onto your eyelid as well.

No fragrance detected.

-super pigmented
-silky, buttery, soft formula
-compact, sleek packaging

Not available overseas yet but is available in Southeast Asia at the moment.

Overall thoughts:
I’m super impressed with this eyeshadow palette, which is quite surprising since a lot of eyeshadow palettes in K-beauty really is not all that pigmented.  My only criticism is that there isn’t enough matte shades nor is there a shade dark enough to contour with.  Overall I’m highly impressed and definitely give you the green light to go purchase it for yourself :).
