Clio Rouge Heel lipstick review + swatches

Clio has one of the best lip products by far, and every time they come out with new products, I’m in.  Not only does the colors this time around look amazing, the packaging is sexy af!! Their inspiration is a black stiletto with the red sole (aka. Christian Loubutin Pigalle).  Not only is the packaging sleek, it has a cool packaging where you click the bottom to release the lipstick bullet.  AHHH way too awesome.  Anyways, I’m going to cut this short and let’s just get into the review.

How to use:
Simple swipe the lipsticks on your lips for a full coverage look or dab for a gradation lip.

Packaging:
Like I said before, packaging was one of the big reasons why I got these lipsticks, but also I know Clio’s pigmentations is amazing so I bought these lipsticks with confidence.  These lipsticks cases are slightly smaller then a traditional lipstick case.  To release the lipstick, you have to click the bottom (where the red is) and then pull it out.  The lipstick won’t just fly out after you click it, you actually have to pull it out which is a good insurance for your purse.

On the bottom of the lipstick is the shade name and the label is also color coordinated which is really nice.  It also has both Korean and English names!!

The lipstick bullet is smaller then I imaged actually.  Here is a side by side with the rouge heel (left) and the Clio mad matte lipstick.  The mad matte lipstick has 4.5 g while the rouge heel has only 3.6 g and you can definitely see the difference, especially when the rouge heel lipstick has a huge deep.  I don’t mind the way they sliced the lipstick, but the edge does get worn down a bit and you can’t really get a perfect edge on your lips.

Also note, something very odd happened.  I’ve had these lipsticks for less then a month and when I went to take pictures for the review, Dark Dahila had mould growing on the back of the lipstick bullet!  White mould!!!! I was like what the heck!  I checked all the other ones and another shade had it as well.  It’s so odd because it never hit any moisture, so why would that happen!  I quickly took a Q tip with some rubbing alcohol, took off the mould and sprayed the shitz nitz out of the lipstick.  I don’t know why that happened but you have been informed.  It might have been just my fault, maybe when I went to apply it and some of my saliva went on it or something.  Who knows…

Color/ Pigmentation:
Now I made it a point to get a really dark shade, a light shade and some shades in between.  I really wanted to get my hands on #13 nudy brown but that one was super popular and was already sold out at the time when I ordered it.  I actually was only going to get three shades, but then get tempted by three more… so now here we are LOL.

Pigmentation is amazing.  With just one swipe, I was able to achieve full opacity no problem.  I had a bit of problem with Dark Dahila since it was a little bit sheer, especially when I didn’t have a lip pencil to line it with, I wasn’t able to get the nice crisp line that I wanted.  The rest of the shades worked just fine.

*Please note, I tried my absolute best to swatch these lipsticks for you.  If they are slightly crooked or off the lip line, I’m sorry T_T.  I tried my best but I was getting frustrated.*

Here are my bare lips.  They are quite rosy red usually, so I always have problems with lighter shades.  I don’t really like to blank out my lips with foundation or anything since I have dry lips.

Dark Dahlia: Cool tone dark blackberry shade 

Like I said before, I had a little bit of problems with this shade since I couldn’t get the perfect line without a lip liner.  The color is really nice but these do transfer, so beware!

Deep Brandy: Warm toned red with a slight blue undertone

This may be one of my most favourite reds.  I always fine ones with a slight blue undertone because it matches my skin a lot better. Deep Brandy effortlessly glides on my lips and makes them pop and look juicy.  LOVE!Chai Tea: Light pink with a slight peach undertone

I thought I would like this shade from looking at the picture, but on my lips, it does not match my skintone.  It is slightly too pale and also has a slight whiteness to it that I don’t like.  I could use this to mix with my other lipsticks, but this is not one I’d wear by itself.  Also if you have dead skin, it may catch onto it after a bit of wear time so beware.

Pink Shake: Strawberry milkshake pink with a slight blue undertone

This pink I don’t hate actually since it almost has a slight purpleness to it.  But I’m not really a light pink person, so I’d use this either to mix or highlight the center of my lips.

Rosywood: Pinkish brick shade

Now this is more my shade.  I really like old lady shades LOL, I don’t know why.  I like them dusty, lavender, slightly darker shade rather then light shades for some reason.  This is a good middle ground where it isn’t too dark where you’d look like a dinosaur (aka. ancient) but it isn’t so light that you look like a child playing with make up.  Almost like a MLBB (my lips but better) but with a slight hint of color.

Peach caramel: Burnt orange caramel shade

This one is definitely my favourite shade.  It isn’t too loud of a shade, but there is enough color where you can tell your wearing a lipstick.  Peach caramel is also a shade that can easily go with all different kinds of looks.

Texture/ Finish:
All of these glide on the lips easily and smoothly.  They all have a creamy finish with no shimmers or glitters in sight.  On the lips, there is a slight glossy look but it isn’t super glossy where it would slip and slide.

Lasting power:
These transfer easily, so reapplying is definitely needed and eating would make them faint quite quickly.  Average lasting power is about 2-2.5 hours.

Fragrance?:
They have a slight vanilla scent to it but nothing offensive to the nose.  The scent reminds me a lot of Mac’s lipsticks but it isn’t as strong or powdery which is nice.  The scent does go away right after application.

Overall thoughts:
I do really like these lipsticks and I really appreciate that they have so many shade to choose from.  Pigmentations is amazing, texture is nice and packaging seals the deal.  They are gorgeous little lipsticks, but I think they went a little too crazy on the packaging and had to put less product into the actual lipstick bullet which isn’t so great.  But overall I think these lipsticks are worth it and is definitely worth checking out.
