Foreo UFO mask review (Farm to face) I Do you need them all?

It is no secret that I love my Foreo UFO 2.  If you haven’t read that review, why haven’t you huh!?!?! Why am I so aggressive all of a sudden HAHA.  Anyways… a lot of you guys have asked me if it is necessary to buy Foreo’s masks that go along with the UFO device.  Yes and no, but it depends on your habits.  If you want to see some DIY options, make sure to check out my Foreo UFO 2 review first before continuing on to reading my review for their farm to face sheet masks.  With so many masks to choose from them, let me guide you through each one and which one is my pick for dry skin individuals!  Let’s go~

How do you use a Foreo mask?

Make sure you are getting masks that correspond to your UFO device.  If you look on the side of the box, it will tell you if your UFO mini device works with the specified mask.  Only those with the cryotherapy function aren’t compatible with the UFO mini.  If you aren’t sure though, you can also double-check on Foreo’s website just to make sure.

To use these mask packs, simply rip open the packet and place the mask onto the flat metal side of your Foreo UFO 2 device, making sure the pointy side is placed where the little plastic ring’s “handle” is.  Then place the ring on top to secure the mask.  Before I got the UFO in person, I always thought the plastic bit was a full cover and not a ring.  I don’t know why I thought that, it’s just one of those silly thoughts that also doesn’t make sense.

To operate the device, you do have to use the app if you are doing a full routine that corresponds to which mask you got. You can also create a custom routine which then you can just turn on the device and it would automatically go to that routine.  Before the app update, you had to scan the mask you are using to activate the specific routine.  Luckily now, you can just select whichever mask routine you want and you are good to go!

Can I use Foreo UFO without a mask?

Yes, you most definitely can.  I use the Foreo UFO 2 most of the time without a mask attached to it.  For example, when I’ve had a good crying session watching sad K-dramas or I’ve been staring at the computer for far too long and my eyes are hurting, I turn on the cryotherapy and just place it on my eyes for that nice cooling (but not freezing) effect.  You can use it every day just for the light therapy function right after you do your skincare routine.  The Foreo UFO 2 is the swiss-army skincare device of the beauty world.  Your creativity is the only thing stopping you.

Product packaging:
I have to say, the graphic design team killed it for these masks!  This is their farm to face sheet mask line, Foreo’s best-selling mask to compliment the light therapy function.  I would love to see Foreo come with a multi-pack for these masks since the foil packaging for each mask is a little bit of a waste.  Each box comes with 6 individual masks and they come packed with a crazy amount of essence.  I usually rub the rest of the essence all over my body.  Yes… that is how much essence there is leftover.

Texture of pads + texture of essence:
At first, I thought these masks were made out of cotton however the website says they are “a hydro cell mask that is 100% plant-based, biodegradable.”  The texture is much softer than regular cotton pads and I am happy that they are biodegradable but I’m not sure if you can throw it in the compost bin.  They also seem to soak in the essence very well, however, I still like to slather a bit more essence on my face before starting my treatment.

Please note, all the masks are formulated without:
Sulfates SLS, SLES, parabens, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, triclosan and triclocarban and contains less than 1% synthetic fragrances. Now each mask comes with a unique routine, using heat, cryotherapy, and certain colors of the LED light spectrum so you can get the most out of the corresponding ingredient.  Here is a list of all the colors the Foreo UFO 2 has and what the functions are for each color.

I was really looking forward to the acai mask since it is usually more hydrating and it looked creamy on the website.  The scent is a little too artificial for my liking but it does fade after application.  It smells like those berry vitamins I use to have to eat as a kid.  Texture-wise, the acai berry mask is a lightweight cream that absorbs into the skin rather quickly and leaves a light layer of hydration.  I feel like this is a mask that normal to combination skin types would enjoy more than me and my sad dry skin.

I, unfortunately, cannot test this one out for you guys due to my skin hating anything with rose in it.  The texture is gel type and seems to be quite lightweight as well, but this isn’t an accurate reading since I just tested it out on the back of my hand.  There is a nice subtle rose scent that reminds me of a rich lady.  It isn’t too overpowering and does fade slowly after application.

 I don’t know why I was so hesitant about trying out cannabis on my face.  Yes, I know it is legal in Canada, but I’m not sure where the fear was coming from, especially since hemp seed oil has been used in the beauty world for ages.  After sucking it up like the big girl I’m supposed to be, I have to say…. HOLY COWS this is my favorite one of the bunch FOR SURE.  It is SOOOOOO super hydrating and sometimes I forget to even apply moisturizer on.  That is how rich, nourishing and hydrating this baby is.  I did notice my skin was smoother and somewhat soothed, but I need to use this more regularly to see its true effects.  Fragrance-wise, the cannabis seed oil gave a slightly “green” and natural smell, with kind of a mix of green tea to it but it wasn’t strong nor did it linger around. This one is for sure repurchase.  UGH SO GOOD.

If cannabis seed oil is my first place lover, Foreo’s coconut oil mask is my sideline boyfriend.  This coconut oil one is amazingly nourishing and hydrating as well but doesn’t hit that holy grail spot the same.  It is creamy and leaves somewhat of an oily finish, but oily in a good way, not the heavy and “I can never wash it off my face” way.  It also has the truest coconut scent to it, which ejects you into this beautiful, tropical rainforest world while you are relaxing with the heated treatment.  This is another amazing one, you have to get this and the cannabis seed oil mask if you are dry skin like me.

This green tea mask was one I really wanted to love but it didn’t do much for my skin, unfortunately. The essence was the most lightweight of the five and my dry skin absorbed it like it was nothing.  I did really enjoy the built-in routine with the cryotherapy but that was about it.  The scent was just like a freshly brewed cup of green tea, very soothing scented, and didn’t linger for too long.  I would recommend this mask to those with normal and oily skin types as this is very lightweight and offers the least amount of hydration.

Any type of honey skincare product is usually an easy love for me.  Honey/ propolis products give me that gorgeous glow I am looking for and always adds a great amount of hydration and nourishment.  This honey mask was very similar to the green tea one where it just absorbed into my skin, leaving a slight softening effect for a little bit but does a disappearing act and leaves nothing really behind.  The scent is also way too overpoweringly floral, sweet, and artificial honey. I think I wouldn’t mind this mask as much if the scent was not so intoxicating.  Overall this is a so-so mask in my opinion and would again, work better for those with normal to combination skin types.

Here is what the textures of each essence look like.  The green tea, manuka honey, and Bulgarian rose all have a clear gel-like texture with green tea being the most lightweight, manuka honey has a slightly stringy texture while the Bulgarian rose to have a texture in-between the two.

Acai berry, coconut oil, and cannabis seed oil all have a more creamy, thicker texture with acai berry ranking the most lightweight out of the three while coconut oil and cannabis seed oil being quite similar to each other.  The cannabis seed oil has a slightly stringy texture as well, kind of like snail mucin if you have ever tried snail products.  Coconut oil and cannabis seed oil leaves a gorgeous dewy finish that works amazingly with my dry skin while acai berry absorbs into my skin with a light layer of hydration.

Do you wash off Foreo masks?

Foreo masks are no different than regular masks, they are just cut into a smaller size so they can fit onto the Foreo UFO 2.  You want the benefits of the essence, so no. Do not wash off the essence, unless it is irritating or burning your skin, then that is a different story.

Pro:

-well thought out app to go along with each mask
-great variety to choose from

Con:
-so much waste for single-use mask! Can we talk about a bulk pack?

Repurchase?:
I would definitely repurchase the cannabis seed oil and coconut mask solely for their amazing essence.  Or if they can just come out with different essence to go alongside the UFO, I would buy those essences in a heartbeat.

Overall thoughts:
Naturally, I have my favorites and I have my meh masks.  I usually don’t care too much to use single mask products because of the waste and I think I’m just lazy LOL.  That is also another reason why I’ve switch to using Japanese masks because they are way cheaper, about $0.35-$0.40 compared to $1+, and they come in bulk packs of 15 to even 35 masks.  I am happy I got to try all of these because I found my two favorite masks I’ll be using forever!!  I highly highly recommend you guys use the cannabis seed oil and coconut oil masks if you are dry skin like me.  They are almost god sent!

Do I think you need to buy these masks in order to operate your Foreo UFO 2?  No, I don’t think you need them but it would be a nice little addition.  I mean you can use their set routines now that it has been unlocked in the app.  Again, if you want to check out my Foreo UFO hacks to save yourself some money, make sure to read my Foreo UFO 2 review!
