Iope Air Cushion XP Review

BB cushions has been all the craze for at least the past 4-5 years (maybe even longer) in Asia and you can thank Iope for this.  Apparently Iope was the first to release a BB cushion and then all the other companies followed, hence the 7 million cushions out in the Korean beauty market at the moment.  Now BB cushions have evolved into another beast, but I think Iope is still a good cushion to start with.  This was THE first cushion I have ever tried and never looked back ever since.  I’ve even forgotten all about my BB creams!  It is all about cushions, cushions, cushions now! Anyways, let’s start with the review.  Enough with my rambling (/^▽^)/.

Product packaging:
The packaging of this Iope BB cushion is super basic and boring.  It comes in this white pearly plastic compact with a sliver spray over on the side to make it look slightly fancier.

This again is a push open type of compact and inside is the standard air puff.  Excuse my air puff.  I’ve cleaned it multiple of times but the BB cream has stained the white side.  It’s old…

You can tell I’ve had this for a long time.  Don’t worry, I promise you it is clean.  If you don’t know how to clean and air puff, check out my tutorial here!
Flip open the cap of the compact and inside is the sponge soaked with the BB cream.  The shade I got here is N21.

Color/ Pigmentation:
The shade I got here is N21 Vanilla (natural).  I didn’t actually get to pick the shade out myself since I got it in a trade.  I just prayed for the best and surprisingly, it is quite a good fit for my Mac NC25 skintone.  This shade is not too yellow or too pink, nor does it have any gray cast.  Because there is a high SPF (SPF 50), this product would not be your best choice if you were to go out and and about taking photos with flash.  With just one layer, I was able to cover a lot of my mild imperfections and it gave me the most natural, skin like look.  Surprisingly, Iope actually has 4 shades available (13, 21, 22, 23). So if you are pale or in the range of Mac NC15-35, you are in luck.

Texture/ Finish:
Texture wise, this formula is just like any other BB cushion out there.  It is kind of like a watered down version of a BB cushion and offers light to medium coverage that is buildable. Once it is applied on the skin, it gives the skin a slight dewy finish but sets in about an hour to a moisturized satin finish.  The finish reminds me of A’pieu Air fit but it isn’t as dewy and sets faster. If you were in the market for a moisturizing BB cushion but didn’t want one that is as dewy as A’pieu Air fit, this could be a good choice for you.  I’m also happy to inform you that this formula doesn’t cling onto dry patches of skin!!  Finally I have found another BB cushion that does a good job and not make me look a decade older!!

Iope also offers two other versions in their BB cushion line up, “intense” which I’m guessing is one with a higher coverage, a “matte” one which would be great for those who have oily or combo skin and a shimmer version.

Coverage:
This particular version of Iope Air cushion gives a light to medium coverage that is buildable.  You just have to make sure you work in thin layers or else it can look slightly cakey.

Lasting power:
For me, this lasted on my skin for more then 8 hours with slight fading around the sides of my nose but that is to be expected with a moisturizing and dewy finished base make up.  If you want it to be more long lasting, you could always just set it with some powder. I personally like the moisturizing effect it has on my skin, so I prefer not to set it.

Fragrance?:
This cushion has a very faint fragrance.  The scent is just the generic soapy floral scent, but it is not super strong at all and fades after application. Smell-o-scale=4/10 in terms of how strong the fragrance smells.

Here is my bare face with zero make up.

My skin type profile:
-lives in an area with Oceanic climate (West coasts; cool & chilly winters, warm summer)
-very dry during fall and winter; dry during spring, normal in summer

Skin concerns:
-hydration for my dry skin
-flakey dead dry skin
-dark under eye circles from lack of sleep
-slight redness around cheek, nose and chin

Things I look for in my base make up:
-hydrating
-dewy finish preferred
-evens out redness around nose, cheek and chin
-does not cling onto dry patches

Let’s start!  I always like to start around my cheek area and then work from there.  Again, make sure not to get too much on your air puff and work in thin layers to get the most natural look.  We aren’t baking a cake here! No cakey look please!Left side is the after, and right side is before.  With just one layer, you can already see my skin is slightly brightened, my redness has been covered and my dark under eye circle has been slightly naturalized.  I wouldn’t just depend on the BB cushion to cover my dark circles since it the dark purple is still peeking out.  I’d have to use my trusty salmon coloured serum concealer from Bobbi Brown.

Full face!  I tried out the new Pony effect products on my brows and eyes.  The review will come down the road, please stay tuned.

I think the best thing about this formula is that it also doesn’t settle into the pores on my nose nor does it accentuate dry skin.  I’m now remembering how much I liked this product and need to finish it up!

Overall thoughts:
Guys, I have pleased to announced this Iope BB cushion will be given my ultimate seal of approval!  It is not everyday that I come across a base make up that checks off all the things I have looking for and can hold it’s own alongside with my beloved A’pieu Air fit.  Although this cushion is more on the price side ($40), I think it is worth trying out if you are in the market for a higher end product and want to graduate from A’pieu.  The hefty price tag can be daunting, but I give you guys the green light to buy it and try it out for yourself.  Of course I can only speak for the original formula, but there is two other versions (intense if you want more coverage, matte for those of you who have oily skin) so pick accordingly.  Overall I’m super happy with this product and it has reminded me how good I had it for this cushion to be my first.
