Melomeli cotton shot lip tint Review + swatches

If you guys been reading my blog for a while now, you’d know I’m not a huge fan of those liquid lip tints.  But lately, I’m really LOVING the velvet formulas since it doesn’t look as bright and it just looks a bit more airbrushed.  So when I had to chance to try these ones from Melomeli gifted to me by Beautytap, I couldn’t say no.  Normally I would since I don’t want my lips to bleed, but these I just couldn’t pass up!  Let’s dive into this brand a bit and see what they are made of!

How to use:
Using the doe foot applicator, apply onto the lips either as gradiation lip or all over the lip.  Blend with fingers, Q tip or even sponge!

Packaging:
The first time I saw Melomeli’s packaging, I thought it was super cute but somewhat childish.  Luckily the actually tube itself has a more simple design then the box and the little hearts even indicate the shade inside which is always a nice touch.  The shade in the back unfortunately doesn’t have the English shade name so your kind of shit out of luck there.  But hey, there’s still the number haha.

Packaging is very simple and straight forward with the doe foot applicator as the main way too apply it onto the lips.  I actually don’t mind using a doe foot applicator for this formula, it kind of works very well in blending and blurring out the lip look.

Nothing too crazy about the doe foot applicator, just your usual slanted doe foot.  I do kind of wish it had the little dip in the middle to catch more product.

Color/ Pigmentation:
Again, I’m going to talk through each shade and explain to you what the shade looks like in person.  Pigmentation for all 6 shades are super pigmented and one swipe does the trick.  All of them have no glitters or shimmers, so if your into that like me, you’ll like these.

Here are my natural lips.  They are quite red actually and I always find a hard time in finding lighter shades to show up on my lips.  I also have quite dry lips but I do condition it during the night when I sleep with my holy grail (and a lot of people’s) Aritaum ginger sugar overnight lip treatment.  I know a lot of you have asked me throughout the year what product will help with dry, cracked lips… that will!!  It will be the best $9 you’ll spend in your whole life.  I promise you <3.

01 Swinging London red: Warm tone cherry red

I normally like cool tone reds over warm tone reds since it just suits my cool tone skin better but this one might be the only warm tone red I’ve liked.  It has the perfect balance of being warm without being too bright red.  Texture also makes it super easy to apply which eases the pain of putting on red anything.
02 vintage love red orange: Warm orange with a red undertone

Another shade I don’t usually like but I do like in this formula.  I just think the whole velvet formula mutes everything down and makes bright colors I would normally not step outside the house with a lot more comfortable for me to wear.  On top of that, one of the reasons why I just stick to lip balms and light tints is that I don’t have to worry about smearing it and looking like Joker and not have anyone tell me for hours!!  How embarrassing!03 moon girl orange: Warm tone creamsicle coral orange

I think this shade would look slightly better on someone that is slightly more tan then me but I actually thing I could pull this off.  This is a good middle ground for a shade with a slight white base mixed into it for that orange creamsicle look.  For me, this would definitely be a spring and summer color.  Too bad summer is almost ending, but I’m totally not mad about that.  Heck there are 600 forest fires happening here in British Columbia :'(.  Me sad.  My beautiful city is burning up into a crisp!!04 Hip and mods pink: Warm tone strawberry light pink shade

Again, I usually don’t like pinks but this one is so nice!!  I’d have to feel super girly to wear this since if I have too much pink, I’d want to throw up.  Hey my favourite Disney princess would be Stitch HAHA (so not a princess).  I’m just not that super girly at heart, more of a tomboy ya know ;).05 love holic muse coral: Warm pinky coral shade

If you don’t want something super pink, 05 would definitely be the right pink.  It has a coral undertone to it which mutes it down a bit.  I can actually see myself wearing this shade on a daily to try and ease myself into being more comfortable with actual colored lip products on my lips haha.
06 Romantic funk brick: Warm orange with a brink brown undertone

This shade would be absolutely perfect for the fall time.  I LIVE for brownish tones along with lavender shades.  UGH!  I don’t have any shade in my collection that is this shade actually.  New beast!

I’m happy to report this line of lip tints doesn’t have seven million reds and maybe three neutrals.  This line that only has 6 shades was very well thought out and has a nice variety of shades even though most of them were warm undertone.

Texture/ Finish:
Like the description says, this goes on super smooth and has the matte look to it but it doesn’t feel super drying which is amazing!  It blends into the lips effortlessly and you can easily do a pro looking blurred gradiation lip look with just a Q tip and no arm strength. 

Lasting power:
This does transfer if you were to eat or kiss your partner, so do beware.  When the product is completely rubbed off of the lips, it does leave a nice tint of color that also looks gorgeous!!  I’d give it an average of 2 hours before the product rubs off but the tint itself lasts a good 5-7 hours.

Fragrance?:
The one thing I don’t like about this product is the smell.  In the description, it says this product might smell like cotton candy to some and Jolly Ranchers to others.  To me, I’d say cherry Jolly Ranchers (the one flavour no one really would pick first for) and I’m definitely not living for it.  It smells way too medicinal and artificial and it is quite strong, especially because your are applying it onto the lips which is right under the nose.  Yike!  Smell-o-scale: 7/10 in terms of how strong the scent is.

Overall thoughts:
I’m super in love with this product and it is easy to see why.  It is affordable with the price point of $11.40 (I do have a coupon too hehe) and with that nice color range, you can definitely find at least one color you’ll like.  This lip tint from Melomeli has definitely sparked interest in their brand and I’ve even tried their lipsticks and its bomb as well (review will come shortly).  I see that they have also expanded their lip tints into a season 2 series and I EVEN SEE A LAVENDER.  Dead….  Okay review is over. LOL
