A’pieu wonder tension moist cushion Review + demo

It’s already been two years since I reviewed and recommended the insanely affordable A’pieu air fit cushion after I was able to score it for $6 on ebay.  After that, A’pieu as a brand just grew in my heart and I kept a close eye on all their new releases.  It’s no surprise that they expanded their cushion line greatly since then, and they came out with this tension cushion during the huge boom of the new technology of tension cushions couple months back.  I picked this up from Jolse right when it was released, but it kind of got left in the back burner until now.  I finally pulled it out to put it to the test, in hopes that it won’t disappoint me.  There are three versions of this tension cushion, moist, perfect cover and a matte version.  I of course picked up the  moist version since I have dry skin.  Sooooo… LETS GET ON WITH THE REVIEW!

How to use:
Simply take the air puff that is provided in the compact, press it onto the tension cushion and stamp onto the skin and pat to blend.

Unlike the rest of A’pieu’s cushions, this wonder tension cushion comes in a square compact with a magnetic closure.  A’pieu is stepping up their game yo!  Since I got the moist version, the side is gold.  If you were to get the perfect cover, it would be a rose gold shade and the matte one is sliver.

Inside, there is a nice sized mirror which I can actually see my whole face with! Say whattttt~~ The overall compact is a lot slimmer then the traditional round compacts, which I’m not mad about :P.

The air puff is unlike the blue ones that are more on the thinner side.  This is the beige ones which is 56 mm in thickness.  I do enjoy these once and a while, especially if I’m looking for more coverage or want a little less dewy finish since these absorb less product and pushes the product into the skin a little bit better.  Nothing super special about the air puff other then it being thicker then the usual ones they offer.

Color/ Pigmentation:
Since I’m a NC 25, I usually have to pick the “darkest” shade which is #23.  This one I also got in shade #23 which I think works fine for my skin and doesn’t look too pale.  The only thing is that this shade has too strong of a pink undertone.  If I were to not blend it in properly, there will be a visible line of difference.  Without any blush or bronzer, it does look a little pale still but after blush and bronzer, it looks fine.  I wish they would fix the shade selection… seriously.  No one is only two shades.

#23 usually doesn’t have a pink undertone, it is #21 that usually has a pink undertone.  Very odd.  But hey, at least it isn’t a strong grey undertone to make me look like I came back from the dead.

Texture/ Finish:
The funny thing is that I actually forgot I bought this cushion in the moist version.  In my head, I was praying that this cushion wouldn’t be drying on my skin and luckily, it wasn’t!  Silly me.. but this cushion isn’t as dewy as the air-fit one, it is more of a natural glow to the skin and less of that “oily” dewy finish that some people don’t enjoy.  I personally like the super dewy finish since it dries down to a satin finish after a while for me anyways.  The only thing I wish the air fit would have had more of was coverage, and this tension cushion gave me just that!  It has a natural glow to the skin, and doesn’t cling onto dry patches and layers on beautifully!  I put two layers on, thinking it would for sure look cakey.  Nope!  Proved me wrong :D.

With the first layer, coverage is about a little over light coverage.  With two layers, you get a solid medium coverage.  I didn’t put three layers on since I think it is a little excessive, but I think it would still layer beautifully.  I think this cushion would be great for those who enjoy medium coverage that looks very natural.

Lasting power:
I wore this cushion for more than 12 hours, and I can say that the coverage for this is pretty awesome.  Now, I personally like a natural-looking finish and don’t mind if some redness peeks out after the 5-hour mark.  I’d say up to 9 hours, this cushion wore just fine with a nice hydrating finish.  After the 9-hour mark, my skin felt a little tight but honestly, that is quite normal since who really wears their makeup for more than 12 hours.  It isn’t anything a facial mist can’t fix, but I’m just too lazy to carry one hehe.

There is a slight soapy floral fragrance but nothing too severe.  Smell-o-scale: 5/10 in terms of how strong the scent is.

Okay!  Let’s give this cushion a try shall we?

Here is my bare skin.  I’ve not been getting enough sleep lately and also the redness around my cheeks has been spreading.  I personally like my base makeup to at least cover the redness around the sides of my nose and the cheeks.  A bonus would be if it can cover up my blemishes but I sometimes use concealer for that job.

Here is what the cushion looks like on the air puff.  As you can see, a tension cushion gives a more even application and you don’t have to press so hard on the sponge to find the product.

Left side is the before and right side if after.  Can you tell a difference?

The left picture is the after, and the right side is the before.  Sorry, I should have put them the other way around.  Silly me.

I love how the cushion adheres to the skin.  No dry patches, slight glow to the skin and good coverage with just one layer.

And here is two layers.  I look like a ghost haha.

If you compare the color of my face and the color of my neck, you can definitely notice the pink undertone in the cushion.  Not good!

Whole face completely done :).  Well, the base make up at least.

And here is the finished look!  What do you guys think?  I personally am loving the formula, just not loving that it is more expensive and doesn’t have a refill.  But I still think it is worth getting to test out for yourself.

-hydrating finish
-good coverage
-tension cushion= easier application

-color selection needs to expand

Stars given out of 5:

Overall thoughts:
Aww this cushion could have easily been a holy grail if it wasn’t for the strong pink undertone.  I truly love this cushion, and dare I say I like it more then the air fit cushion?  The coverage is a lot better and I have to use less product and the tension technology makes it easier to get a more even application.  There are a lot of versions of this cushion now including a color correcting trio and one designed for acne prone skin I believe?  So I think this cushion is doing very well if it has the chance to expand in such a short amount of time.  Overall I think this cushion is awesome and I’d highly recommend it for those who are looking for a good cushion for an affordable price.
