Pony effect unlimited cream shadow review and swatches

Hello!  No I’m not dead, I’ve just been busy with life.  But since I’m healing from the surgery and have a little bit of free time, I will brave my scars and type for you guys.  Pony effect, you already know that I’m in a love affair with this brand. Pony effect releases new products faster then the speed of life, so when I saw them release these back then, I was so excited since I’ve had really good luck with all the other products.  The shade variations they were offered were quite nice, especially X factor which is one of those shades that I define as dragon scale shade.  Let’s see if these are any good!  Let’s go~

All of the cream shadows are free from alcohol, sodium lauryl sulfate, tea, phthalates, propylene glycol, coal tar, mit, parabens, formaldehyde, peg, dye, talc, sulfates, triclosan, formaldehyde-releasers, mineral oil.

How to use:
Use a brush to apply a thin layer of the cream shadow to your eyelids.

Product packaging:
Packaging for these are simplistic, sleek but sophisticated.  The cream shadows come in a clear glass jar, which you can see which shade you’d be grabbing.  The lid is the signature rose gold metal lid which screws onto the jar effortlessly.  On the bottom of the jar is a sticker that indicates which shade it is along with information all in Korean.

Color/ Pigmentation:
Now out of the 8 shades available at the moment, three are matte and the rest are shimmer/ opalescent. 

High standard:Cool tone semi sweet chocolate brown (matte)

Out of the three matte shades, I think this one is definitely my favourite. It’s a standard semi sweet chocolate dark brown which looks good as either an eyeshadow base or even just a wash of color all over the lids.

Heartwarming: Warm tone tanned yellow beige shade (matte) 

This shade is my least favourite since it doesn’t really make sense with my skintone.  This is a light beige tanned leather type of shade and it just looks awkward on my yellow undertone skin.  Its neither dark enough to look okay on my lids and it isn’t light enough for it to be subtle.  Heartwarming is definitely one of the least used shades out of the whole line.

Open minded:Cool tone beige tan shade (matte)

I wish I liked this shade more then I do but because it is so light and it barely shows up on my already light skin, this is yet another shade I don’t find myself using at all.Paparazzi: Neon orangey-pink coral shade with dense pink, orange, gold shimmers (shimmery finish)

Paparazzi is definitely a shade I’m going to be rocking during the summer time.  It is this gorgeous coral neon orange-pink shade with a slight pink shimmer finish.  Out of the shimmery shades, this is definitely the brightest.

Future proof: Bronze rose gold shade with bronze, gold shimmers (shimmery finish)

If you are looking for a shade you can wear everyday, this is the one for you.  Future proof is a gorgeous light bronze rose gold shade that would work into any look.  The finish is definitely not subtle since it is dense in shimmers but it makes any look light up.

Over imagination: Cool toned dark eggplant shade with purple, pink , gold shimmers (slight shimmery finish)

If you are looking for a dark purple, this shade is for you.  Over imagination is quit a standard eggplant purple shade but if you don’t already have this shade in your collection, this is a good option.X factor: Mauve duo-chrome of blue and green (duo chrome finish)

X factor is DEFINITELY the most unique shade out of all of the colors offered.  This type of shade is what I call dragon scale type of shade since it has a hint of taupe one some light, but when the light hits it, the teal duo chrome shines through.

Texture/ Finish:
When I was playing around with these when I first got them, I really didn’t like them nor did I understand the texture.  It has this very odd greasy texture, nothing like the Maybelline color tattoos which I was hoping it would be like.  It is less creamy then it is a slightly grease gel type of situation.  When I first applied it on the eye, it didn’t want to stay for some odd reason.  Because it didn’t want to stay, it also had this sheerness that I didn’t enjoy.  On top of that, when I tried to layer it, it didn’t want to layer it either.  I got so fed up with it, I gave u.  Then I saw someone else’s review and they said to make sure to let it dry in between layering and that seemed to help.  I personally still don’t really like “over imagination” since for dark shades, you need it to be super pigmented.  Any type of sheerness will just make it look blah.

 The finishes depend on which shades you buy.  There are three mattes and the rest are either a duo chrome or a shimmery finish.  The matte shades all work just fine, textures blend onto the skin no problem and pigmentation is also not a problem.  The shimmery shades all doesn’t seem to have that big of an issue other then over imagination.

Lasting power:
So I’ve tried these cream shadows two ways, by itself or as an eyeshadow base.  By itself, it doesn’t have the best lasting power and it creases slightly.  I personally don’t have oily lids, so I can’t imagine what it would be like for those with oily lids.  As an eyeshadow base, it worked fine but since the texture isn’t like a creamy texture, it doesn’t let powder eyeshadow stick on that well either.  Estimated lasting power is about 4 to 5 hours before things start to fall apart.

Fragrance?:
There is a very faint scent to it, it kind of just smells like paint make up.  I can’t really explain what it smells like but the scent is not strong and it fades after application.  Smell-o-scale: 3/10 in terms of how strong the scent is.

Pro:
-nice variation of shades to choose from
-matte shades included
-nice packaging (see through jar, quality lid)

Con:
-odd colors for the matte shades
-texture is a little off
-pigmentation for some is lacking

Overall thoughts:
I’m unfortunately not overly impressed with these.  Out of the Pony effect products I have tried and reviewed, this one might be one of the most lacklustre products and ones that definitely need improvement.  I do understand that they are trying to make a moisturizing cream shadow with the cocoa nut seed butter, but something about the formula doesn’t seem to adhere to the skin properly.  I’m not sure if it is because I got bad ones but there is no way all 8 shades went bad.  The matte shades I didn’t have as much problems as I did with the shimmery ones, which sone of them wouldn’t let me layer.  X factor worked fine as one of the darker shades, but over imagination was a huge disappointment.  Overall I’d say this product is more of a hit or miss depending on which shades you pick and I personally wouldn’t repurchase.
