Rose that doesn’t irritate! (Steambase skincare review)

Steambase skincare reviewIf you guys have followed me for a while, you’ll know that rose products have always been a problem for me.  I always get approached by brands to see if I want to test their products and 99% of the time I would say yes if the products look interesting to me.  Steambase is a completely new brand and the first word that stood out to me was “roseherb”.  I already was turned off by it and was about to say no but when I actually took the time to read into their press release, I realized that these products don’t have an ounce of rose!  I’ll get more in depth as to what their roseherb line is all about so without further adieu, let’s welcome Steambase! Bonjour~

STEAMBASE
Creating the base of health skin.
Skin architecture for building moist skin texture.
Steambase builds the foundation for health, beautiful skin by combining vitality of nature and skin science.

This brand focuses on using natural thermal spring water as well as natural botanical ingredients to create their products.  I also had to verify if they do any animal testing and good news!  They are cruelty free and animal testing free whoo!!

Their roseherb series, which is their first line of skincare, contains onyang thermal spring water as well as the three “rose” ingredients which is the star of the line.

The so called “rose” products in this line are:
Rose Geranium: controls your skin balance
Rosemary: superior hydrating and soothing ingredient that provides gentle and mild care to the skin
Rosehip: vitalizies your skin with vitamin C

Alongside the three “rose” ingredients, this line of skincare also uses pepties to help provide resilience-boosting care. Acetyl hexapeptide-8 fights against wrinkles and enhances skin elasticity while Pentapeptide-4 vitalizes the skin as it has condition effects on the skin.

When they first released this line of skincare, they only had four products which is shown in the picture along with 5 different types of masks.  Now they have added a roseherb cleansing foam, a calendula deep moisture cleansing water (which I’m dying to try) as well as a whole line of steam eye masks!!

How to use:
Shake roseherb toner well. Apply toner on cotton pad and genty sweep across skin for soothing care. Pat remaining toner into the skin to aid absorption.

k beauty toner steambase roseherb build up tonerProduct packaging:
The toner comes in a pretty frosted glass bottle with a regular screw on lid.  Inside is just a regular plastic stopper which stops clumsy people like me from spilling the whole bottle.  Butter hands here :P.

All of their skincare come in glass bottles which is nice in theory, but I’m not a huge fan of the fact that you have to try and get the product out like your getting ketchup out of a glass bottle.  The toner is fine since it is more on the watery side, but the emulsion is kind of a pain in the butt.

Korean skincare toner Texture/ Finish:
I usually don’t like to use toners since I don’t find it to do anything for my skin.  But I do actually like this one and I don’t use it with a cotton pad, I just splash it into my face like a Neutrogena commercial.  Okay maybe not THAT much, its not watermania here but I use it almost like an essence and I love it!  When the toner dries down, your skin immediately feels softer and feels moisturized already.  This product would definitely work for all skin types!

pH level:
pH 5 which means it is the closest pH level to human skin, therefore the chances of it irritating the skin is very low.

Fragrance?:
There is a light rosemary, kind of sweet scent but it is super faint.  It also doesn’t smell like greenery if you were wondering.  I can’t really pin point on what it smells like.  Imagine running through a field with rosemary from afar but your mother is also inside making lime jello. LOL the imagery is unreal here.  Scent fades almost instantly and smell-o-scale: 3/10 in terms of how strong the scent is.

Pro:
-highlight moisturizing
-lightweight texture

Con:
-glass bottle is nice and all but kind of heavy and annoying

Repurchase?:
Maybe

Overall thoughts:
I really don’t care for toners but this is one I really did enjoy.  It is lightweight but super moisturizing and my skin feels awesome.  This would be a perfect product for someone like the mister since he hates sticky stuff and this absorbs into the skin quickly and effectively delivers hydration to the skin.  Two thumbs up and I give you the green light if you want to buy it.

How to use:
Following the roseherb toner or serum application, dispense a fair amount of product onto the face and massage evenly into the skin to aid absorption.

k beauty skincare roseherb build up emulsionProduct packaging:
Packaging is exactly the same as the toner and the only way for me to quickly grab the right product is just by seeing that the bottle for the emulsion is milky.  Same frosted glass bottle, same stopper.  I just wish the stopper was either bigger or even have a pump!  A pump would definitely be nice for this product since it is so hard to get out! UGH.

k beauty skincare Texture/ Finish:
Texture is almost like the toner but definitely slightly thicker and milkier.  If you are looking to get either the toner or the emulsion, I would go with what type of skin you have.  If you have oily to combination skin, I would go for the toner and skip the emulsion.  If you have dry skin like me and want a layering piece in your routine, the emulsion would be the way to go.  This emulsion absorbs into the skin quickly but leaves a very hydrating finish.  My skin feels super soft but I wouldn’t be able to use just this product alone with my dry skin.  I’d definitely need to at least use a moisturizer afterwards.

pH level:
pH 5

Fragrance?:
Fragrance is the same as the toner,  Lime jello + hint of rosemary.  Smell-o-scale: 3/10 in terms of how strong the scent is and the scent goes away after application.

Pro:
-effective moisturizer
-great layering piece

Con:
-not a product to use alone (obviously though since emulsions are usually used to layer with other products)

Repurchase?:
Maybe but it isn’t game changing enough for me to want to repurchase.

Overall thoughts:
Although I find this product to be not shabby, it isn’t memorable and I didn’t really see it firm my skin.  Then again, maybe because I don’t have much to firm at the moment but overall moisturizing effects worked well with my dry skin.  I definitely wouldn’t be using this alone but it is a good moisture booster and I can definitely see every skin type liking this product.

How to use:
Following the toner application, apply a fair amount over the entire facial are and cup the hands over the face in a massaging motion to increase ingredient absorption.

Steambase roseherb perfect build up serum reviewProduct packaging:
The serum comes in the same glass bottle but a cute chubby version with a dropper inside. Nothing really special to report here :).

steambase serumThe dropper does have a slight angle but again, nothing crazy to report here.

Texture/ Finish:
The texture of this serum is almost as watery as the toner but it is ever so slightly thicker.  It absorbs into the skin quickly and honestly, I don’t think it moisturizes a well as the toner.  When I use the whole four product routine, they all work well together but if you were to use this separately with other products in your routine, this might be a better serum for those with oily to combo skin types.

pH level:
pH 5

Fragrance?:
The serum fragrance is quite different from the other products in the line.  It smells a lot more floral with a undertone of rosemary and scent fades after application.  Smell-o-scale: 4/10 in terms of how strong the scent is.

Pro:
-lightweight
-moisturizing but definitely not enough for those with dry skin

Con:
-might not work for dry skin if used alone

Repurchase?:
No

Overall thoughts:
Used all together with my other Steambase products, I think this is a good product but I can’t imaging using this alone with my dry skin.  Hydrating, lightweight but would work better for those with oily to combo skin or if you live in a humid climate and don’t need anything super heavy.  I live in Canada where there is no humidity, so the only way for me to protect my dry skin is to use thick and heavy creams.  Overall this isn’t a bad product but it just doesn’t work for me with my skin type and where I live.

steambase roseherb build up cream reviewProduct packaging:
This moisturizer comes in a standard glass jar with a screw on lid.  The inside also comes with another plastic jar to keep air out and seal in the moisture for a longer period of time.  I don’t remember if it comes with a spatula or not but I think there was?  Goldfish memory :/.

steambase roseherb cream reviewTexture/ Finish:
Their whole line is very lightweight but surprisingly moisturizing if used all together.  This moisturizer is lightweight and absorbs into the skin quickly as well but leaves the skin soft and hydrated.  I think this would work better for me during the spring and summer time when I need something hydrating but lightweight.  It still works right now during the winter times if I layer it with thicker serums and finish off my routine with a facial oil.

pH level:
pH 5

Fragrance?:
Still has the same light rosemary scent but this one has a little less lime jello scent and more herb scent.  Scent faints almost instantly and smell-o-scale of 4/10.

Pro:
-lightweight
-relatively hydrating without greasy feeling

Con:

Overall thoughts:
I think my thoughts on the whole line is that it is lightweight but somehow manages to keep my skin from being chapped.  I’m on the fence about if I like this cream or not since it is so light, but I think it is more of a situational cream for me.  I’d love it during the spring/summer time but not thick enough for me right now during the winter time.  Overall not bad and I’d give you the green light to get it if you are looking for something light and hydrating and also won’t irritate your skin.
